However recently as a naturalist on our charter boat, Catalyst, in SE Alaska, British Columbia and in the San Juan Islands, I went to use the guide to Northwest Coastal Water Birds to help ID gulls and noticed that instead of the Bonaparte Gull, which...

I had a turtle block of calcium (cuttlebone for birds like her) and put it in my tank and keeps floating up and get caught under the falling water that comes out of my filter as I can stand still somewhere else so my lil YBS can nibble on it?
It's so annoying when they do that. If it's an issue about the mess, you could put his food on the bottom of his cage. The water though will just have to stay.

Gresham seeks residents for latest bird survey
Gresham is looking for community members to participate in its third citywide volunteer bird survey to help learn more about the birds that call Gresham home.
An orientation class will be held Saturday, April 23, at City Hall from 9:45 a.m. to noon.
"The survey is capturing a wonderful picture of the wide diversity of birds we have around us," said Megan Garvey, urban habitat enhancement specialist with the city's Environmental Services Department.
Birds are one of nature's indicators of the health of the land and water ecosystems, according Environmental Services. Gresham city staff use the survey information to develop strategies to support native birds. The information helps habitat stewards know what types of bird nest boxes to install and where.
Volunteers survey a natural area or urban site four to seven times over a six week period, one hour per survey. Bird lovers and families are encouraged to sign up. Garvey says no experience is necessary. Experienced

It seems simple: the farmers feeding the world. However, in view of the fact that the world population has doubled since 1960 and is expected to reach 9 billion people by 2050, our work becomes more complex because these people build houses on what is now farmland and consumption water for their daily needs. As I was driving through the Central Valley look at all the rice fields, orchards and the mosaic of wetland refuges, and I worry about what the future holds for the production of rice and many species of birds that gild the Central Valley, as more and more people living on Earth.I worked for The Nature Conservancy in Central Valley of California, for twenty years, and during that time I learned years, the importance of marriage between agriculture and wildlife habitat. As our population grows and demand for food increases, water and energy, that marriage should be even stronger to meet the needs of the people, the rice farmers, and wildlife that depend on that land....
